On Main Street in the historic Old Mill, the Mullica Hill smokehouse is the BYOB, bring-the-kids side of 322. The brisket is the same twelve-hour post-oak cook as Wilmington. The picnic grove and the soft serve are all ours.
Post-oak goes on at midnight. Twelve hours later the brisket comes off dry-rubbed, bark on, shaved or chopped to order. That is the whole method: oak, time, salt, pepper, no shortcuts. Baby back ribs dry-rubbed and cider-glazed. Pulled pork hand-pulled. Chipotle pulled chicken, honey-brined turkey, slow-smoked ham. Sandwiches on brioche, platters with two sides, and combos that feed two to twenty.
Bring your own beer or wine, no corkage fee. No reservations, no wait list, just walk in. House-made soft serve for the kids and a shaded picnic grove for summer. Red Barn Burgers shares the building, and Hill Donut Co. donuts are on the menu.
1 S. Main Street, Mullica Hill, NJ 08062 is where Main Street meets US 322 in the middle of Harrison Township. Glassboro and Rowan are minutes east, Swedesboro and Woolwich minutes west, Sewell and Pitman up Route 55. Catering covers all of South Jersey; either smokehouse can cook it.
